Default Wordpress Configuration Questions

Hi Tech Experts,

I would like to know if it is possible - in a standard wordpress theme - to remove the post/comment/date posted stuff.

It makes the website look like a blog and before I engage someone to do some changes for me, I would like to know if it can be removed somehow.
Or does it depend on the theme I'm using and how flexible it is?
I'm currently looking at using the "Colorway" theme.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Mel

Hi Mel,

I usually find that the free Wordpress templates have a lot less functionality than the premium versions, but removing the post/date/comment information should be a pretty basic adjustment and something that you could do from the theme options panel.

Good luck!

In most free themes you would have to jump in to the code editor (eg: functions.php) and manually strip this code out.

If you know PHP give it a go, but ALWAYS backup the individual file in case you make a mistake.

Yes, but you will generally have to go into the theme editor and edit, for example, single.php to change the single post display page. You should be able to find lines that include things like the_date, the_title, etc., that will give clues as to what each bit of code does. Just be careful -- perhaps reads up a little on PHP. Depends how dirty you want to get your hands.

Peter.

Hi Exstatic,

Thanks for this link!

I don't think I will be attempting to do those changes myself. I have a fair understanding of what can go wrong... *lol*

Happy to receive a quote for a simple 4 page website in Wordpress with eCommerce store.

So far, I have played around with it a little and installed the WP e-Commerce plugin and got the Colorway theme up (for now).

Pages being: Homepage, Products, About, Contact

All I need is a couple of changes to the theme itself. The big white box should ideally be made a bit smaller so that the background colour behind that can be turquoise (and no pattern) and the photo at the front ... not sure how to get this smaller but it would be good to have that a little bit smaller.

And I want all posts/comments/date disabled so that the website doesn't look like a blog. But of course, I should still be able to add content.

I can even upload the products/photos and website content myself.

Looking forward to receive a quotation!

Thanks!

Mel
