Ebook creation software

Any recommendation for what software to use to create ebooks?! Have just created PDF via photoshop before but think there are better ways?!

I make lots of books and ebooks. Normally a book is made in a page layout program like Indesign, not Photoshop. Photoshop is for editing pixel images. Pdfs made in Photoshop are very high file sizes.

Indesign exports to all kind of pdfs and you can add links, cross links, web links and much more.

It is not intuitive and is considered a high end design program but you can learn to use it from good online tuition like www.lynda.com

In Acrobat Professional you can then optimise pdfs for other uses as well.

Craig,

I'm a big fan of Scrivener (http://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener.php). Very easy-to-use writing software that can then spit out a final copy in a variety of file formats.

I don't use it now because it was on my XP computer which is dead adn I don't really make them anymore

I use Nuance PDF Creator to create my eBooks. Very reliable and the end product is sharp, however the Microsoft Word/Outlook/Excel/Powerpoint integration is a little buggy.

I've used a few different ebook creation programs over the years, but have ended up coming back to one of the simplest options...PDFs.

I create mine using the free OpenOffice software. From there you can simply export the file directly as a PDF so there's no need to invest in any paid PDF creation software.

Thanks for all the tips .. I use open office too so will give that a try first ... Assume it can include links into the PDF too
