I think its why people want to do business with people they know, that way business often flows both ways. |
I have personally used 99designs on a number of occasions and it isn't that bad, its as good as the information you put in.
I have personally never used it for a logo, but for other designs I have.
The thing with using it is you need to be detailed in your own brief, you only get out of it what you put in.
If you just say '.. I need a logo for my business, I am a plumber..' then you will get a whole raft of different designs.
If however you write a couple of paragraphs on what the business does, how you want it represented, what sort of colours you want, what other styles of logos you like, where you are going to be displaying it, letterheads, business cards etc.. then you are much more likely to get a better repsonse.
The designers submit entries to you, and you can critique the designs and ask for changes, complete re-designs etc.. Other designers can see what each designer is submitting, so they are effectively trying to out do each others logos.
The onus really goes back to the business owner in this type of model, you are saving the money of a logo designer doing the research of your business and you are doing that part yourself.
Sure 99designs isn't for everyone, but it has certainly worked for me in the past, and I will use it again in the future.
