Need a good online project management software

I'm in desperate need of good online project management software.

I have a new business and I need to manage about 20 contractors, each being assigned different articles to write - I would love to do this online ...

I know with this many users the chances of getting anything good for free is zilch ... don't mind paying, as long as it's a really good program.

We use Basecamp from 37 Signals (www.37signals.com). Some might say it is a bit too simplistic, but we like it, and our clients seems to be able to get the hang of it quite quickly and interact with us on it.

I am a Multi-VA in that I have a team of subcontractors based around Australia and the world.

I began using Basecamp but found that it didn't meet my needs so I began to use Client Spot. This is my affiliate link and you can sign up for a free account.

What I love about this software is that anytime I have an idea on how to change the software, I email the developer who then implements the suggestion. I have been using it now for 11 months and I absolutely rely on it to manage my team and my client tasks.

Jexley - 88 miles looks great, although it does look to be focused around detailed time tracking rather than full blown project management...

Still, it is fantastic to see Aussie businesses getting up there with web based services - hope your mate does really well with this!

I'd offer to take look at our tool Comindwork. It was sepcially designed for distributed teams and have all the project management and collaboration features you might need - task management to-do lists, issue tracking, enterprise wiki, project blogs, integration with third party services and much more. The best thing you can you use it for free (3 actove projects, unlimited users, 300MB storage space). There is a feature you need but we don't have it? not a problem, write an email to our support team to see if it is already on our roadmap.

Whatever tool you will choose, remember that is all about the people and the tools, the right tools just make it happen a little bit easier

What are your requirements from this online tool? Will it only be used for scheduling and tracking tasks? How many people will use it (most online PM tools charge by the user)? Will you use it frequently or rarely?

I am not going to suggest any tool here, but I invite you to read an article on the subject, the ideal PM tool, maybe it will help you in your decision.
