Default CD & DVD Recycling

I don't know about everyone else but I've thrown out a fair amount of scratched or busted dvd's and cd's over the last few years.

I always thought you couldn't recycle these products so I was pretty surprised/excited (yes, I know I'm sad) today to learn of a company that does recycle dvd's and cd's and old vhs as well.

If you're in Victoria check out http://www.gramdestruction.com.au/index.htm

Does anyone know of recyclers in other states?

Don't know of any other recyclers, but thanks for this info! Will pass it on to the Simple Living folk :-)

That's useful thanks. We're shifting and have unearthed tons of floppy disks and looks like they take these too.

CD-ROM Services offer an environmentally friendly DVD and CD recycling service in which cases, printed materials and the discs themselves are all recycled.
The discs are sent by CD-ROM Services to a facility where the metallic coating is removed and the substrate (the plastic type material) is then recycled. The CD cases are recycled with other plastics and the paper is given to paper recyclers for processing.

This service is completely free.
Just take your discs to CD-ROM Services Pty Ltd,
Shop 2, 66 Berry Street, North Sydney 2060.
http://www.cdroms.com.au/cd/recycle.html

All they ask is that you separate the discs from their cases and printed papers before bringing them to us.

Please use common sense in recycling materials. If the environmental cost of sending the materials for recycling seems to be greater than the environmental saving of recycling the discs, perhaps the wisest choice is to just add them to your garbage. The disc material is very inert and unlikely to do any damage to the ground water etc.

If you are able to drop the discs on your way through North Sydney, then you are being practical. Consider if the environmental saving of recycling discs is greater than the fuel used by the courier or posting the discs.

However the cases that have a recycling logo and paper can be recycling through your domestic plastics and paper service, saving fuel bringing them to North Sydney.

CD-ROM Services often are given CD, DVD and Blu-Ray cases that are in good condition, some with stickers, that are usable and available FREE only by visiting their shop, saving recycling, and save you money.
