Default Free Websites

Has anyone used this company to make a free website?

www.webs.com

I'm wanting to create a page for a dachshund rescue group so not wanting to pay anything for the page or hosting. What got me concerned was them asking me to download javascript which my computer currently blocks.

Would that be a problem - since I run an online shop the last thing I want is for my computer to have any "issues"

thanks.
Sharman

Hi Sharman, why not try www.wordpress.com or www.blogger.com? They are blog services but you can elect to use static pages and not blogposts. They both have many templates to choose from and you can have additional users so if you have others in your rescue group who would like to assist with the site this can easily be set up.

They're free-hosted and you just login online to set them up. Very easy. I don't know about Wordpress but with Blogger there are thousands of other free templates out there you can use and you might find one that has the right dogs in the template.

Wordpress would if you're paying for hosting - I just don't know about their free hosted service and whether you can use any of the other free templates out there, other than what they have available on their list.

Hi Dachsund, just an off-topic...the link to your FaceBook gives a "page not found" ( possibly not configured correctly in your profile- voice of experience speaking lol..I had my Twitter misconfigured recently )

with domains as cheap as they are and hosting very cheap - I would not suggest wasting your time with free sites.

Check out Google Sites.

I would also second kathiemt's suggestion of Wordrpess or Blogger (Wordpress in particular. Once you become more proficient you can set it up on your own domain eg. www.dachshundrescue.com or safesausage.com.au :-) and it becomes even more flexible and powerful.)

I am too and advocate of wordpress.. its is extremely flexible, easy to use and is free.

There are loads of plugins & themes that can turn it into anything you want.

there is a hosted version that you can use on www.wordpress.com

or you can install your own, on your own host by downloading the version from www.wordpress.org

Enjoy!

Yes, I'm self-hosted with Wordpress and the majority of sites I set up for myself and clients now are in Wordpress. So easy to use, easy for clients to access and update, easy to set up and I love that you can change the theme and look so easily with one click.

There are in fact dozens and dozens of free hosts around - I found this one recently http://www.jimdo.com/ seems more page orientated - which might suit you and has the easiest interface I've come across
