Default Help - apparently my domain is for sale

I just found this link http://www.sedo.com/search/details.p...artnerid=17505 that says that superwahm.com is for sale.

I own this domain - it's my main business site - and it's definitely not for sale. What do I do? Is there any way that someone can buy my domain without my permission?

I've said a lot of very bad words in the last half hour.....

Melinda, have you locked your domain name with your domain registrar? There is always a possibility that if it is unlocked it can be transferred to another registrar by an unauthorised person without your permission.

It is locked, yes. I even went and double-checked to make sure, although I lock all my domains.

I've reported it to the legal department of Sedo and am waiting to hear what they have to say. I was pretty strong in the email - pointing out that I'm the legal owner of the domain, referred them to whois and demanded that the listing be removed immediately.

When I first saw it I felt ill - now I'm just livid that some idiot would try this.

Melinda: Chilllll out

I sell and buy domains all the time.

this is what happens

your domain name was registered in 2009.... and it expires in 2011... so you will not "loose the domain name". Relax.

But in FACT your domain name used to have an owner in 2007

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.superwahm.com

that owner for sure put it in Sedo... forgot to renew it and still appears in SEO for sale.

It happens all the time. Trust me: I'm an Internet Ninja

A domain cannot be transferred without approval of the registrant, locked or not. The locking does provide an extra step of security though so may as well use it.

I wouldn't be concerned at all Melinda, your domain is safe.

Cheers,
Joel

Hi Mel,

It looks like your domain has had a very chequered history with lots of transfers over the years. So what Gabriel said is a pretty good assumption.

A "whois" search confirms you own it through to 24 Nov 11 and as you say, transfer is locked.

There are heaps of domain name scams around and a Google search will unearth many aimed at the users of Sedo and other domain parking services. Eg:

"Domain valuation scam targets Sedo users"
http://www.thatdanny.com/2009/03/08/...ts-sedo-users/

Then there is...
"Sedo Fined 95,000 Euro’s By A French Court For A Parked Page & Ordered To Post The Verdict" (2010 March 11)
http://www.thedomains.com/2010/03/11...t-the-verdict/

Regs,

JohnW

At least this one is the .com and not the .com.au domain Leah! LOL!

Yes, all sorted now. I received an email from Sedo to say they had removed the listing.
