I also think the idea of subscription fee coming out of the cash-back savings is a good one.

My experience with cash back was they didn't send it to me. I completed all the requirements and sent it off. I kept a copy as well. They said that I hadn't completed the form completely and so I was not entitle to the cash back. So now days I don't buy anything that has a cash back offer and I tend to avoid the stores that offer them. Once bitten twice shy.
