Default What do YOU do at the end of a bad day?

So, we all have crappy days every now and then. Those days when clients are rude, suppliers give you the runaround, computer crashes, and you end the day feeling like you've achieved nothing...sometimes all those things can happen in the ONE day...

My question is, when you work from home and don't have someone to vent to, or the train/drive home time to unwind and let go, how do you chill at the end of a bad day so you don't bring your bad mood onto your family?

Wendy

How about going out for dinner and drinks.

Hi Wendy,

Feel free to come on to the forum and have a little vent any time.

Whatever's happened in your day, there's usually someone around here who knows exactly what you mean.

Hope it gets better soon!
Jayne

Takeaway (I'm the only one who cooks in our house) and wine usually help

Plus venting to like minded people, even if they are virtual!

A long walk works for me ... even better if you have a dog. I used to really love going for walks when I worked from home and I'd go out at rush hour ... watching everyone grumbling in their cars and realising that things weren't really so bad.

A good single malt whisky can also work wonders!

I know it's different for everybody, but there's something seriously therapeutic about laying in a hammock and plucking on a guitar.

Strangely enough, when I'm doing it to chill myself a bit, it actually brings a good vibe to the entire fam. Pretty good.

But yes, Wendylady, Jayniebird's right. You should come on here and have a cry. It's cathartic and maybe we can threaten your nemeses with steel-toed boots and ninjalike movements and make you feel better.

I'm with you Gail, there's nothing like taking the dog for a walk to clear my mind. Actually, just seeing my dogs excitement when I pick up his lead is enough to put the smile back on my face. Follow with a glass of red & cheese and its all good :-)

+1 for walking the dog.

I also walk the dog first thing in the morning, sets me up for the day nicely.

Hi Wendy,
Being in a similar position, working from home that is, I know where you are coming from. and sometimes, you think that you can just turn the day around if you push on for another couple of hours.

I think first thing is first you need to have a debrief with yourself on the day. Have a look at what went wrong and why, but more importantly, look at everything you did achieve - even if it feels like nothing, look deeper - have the bad bits taught you some valuable lessons for the future, or perhaps a little email you glossed over earlier, where a customer has heaped praise on you. No day is ever wasted that you actually attempted to do something!

Once you have had the debrief with yourself, come on here, or to your own personal blog site, get it all off your chest, then close the computer, switch off your phone and go be with your family.

IgniteDM and interAccounts like this.
