Default Outsourcing the non-important

Hi,

I have not been able to find a post on here about outsourcing or finding a person to do the time consuming elements of building a business.

I am thinking about hiring a person from overseas to take care of setting up wordpress, coding and doing some copy writing.

We are looking at being able to pick up a good person for around $300 per months for full time.

1. Your thoughts on out sourcing to overseas?

2. Are you interested in joining in with a full-time person that can take care of all your SEO, content creation and website management stuff?

chat soon

Michael

There are bucketloads of threads on here about outsourcing.

It's hit and miss, and you need really REALLY good lines of communication between yourself and your employee to get quality work from them.

Hi Michael,

I'm sorry, but I'm very much against sending work offshore. I can understand from a business perspective that it is sometimes more economical to do this, but I think we really should try to keep work in Australia, where possible, for our sake.

Having said this, it's very unfortunate that I am not able to assist you with any of your requirements as I don't dable in coding, website management etc.

I hope you are able to find what you're looking for.

Regards,

This article raises some very valid points, thanks for posting it. I do understand why businesses go offshore, however I'm very passionate about keeping jobs in Australia and buying Australian, wherever possible.

Regards,

Regards,
I think that the whole buying Australian thing is great but when it comes to it all if you can start off cheaply and then create something massive that needs feet on the ground in Australia then I see that as a better solution.

It was an interesting article and the fact that it got over 180 comments on it means that it is important in many people lives or morals.

Does anybody on here use an overseas person to help grow their business?? (Or willing to say they do )

Michael

I guess it's a two sided arguement. We all want lower prices, but higher wages. It seems like we have a higher consumption (or more disposable income) than say 30 years ago.

Importing goods and Importing services are similar in my opinion. There are certain jobs which you can't outsource, just like there are products that you can't export either. We've been outsourcing "jobs" since we started moving factories to other countries.

it's the way of the world, you can try to fight it or go with it. You see where jobs/opportunities are lost there are others created! They don't disapear.

The only way to fight back job loss is to create your own business, stop relying on jobs, everyone is taught to be an employee not an employer, this is what makes the rich richer. More businesses means more competition which means better products/services for the customer, it's a win win.

You see living costs go up, petrol, food, rent etc, so this means companies/people are making more money, but how come wages don't go up at the same rate if companies are making more money? Where's this money going? In the pockets of the rich.

Oh back to the subject. Yeh I outsource and it's well worth it! It has it's limitations such as:

- having to explain how you want things done takes longer but once you got that right, your up and running! Video tutorials work well.

- monitoring how productive they are can be tricky, but you can implement a few ways of watching their progress such as having them record a time sheet, but it really depends on the type of work.

I would rather hire people in Aus, once my business grows however.

Hi
Both sides of the argument are valid. As small business owners most of us have to watch our costs, but at the same time it is better to keep the jobs and money within our economy.

During my time off from the corporate world as a stay at home Mum, I was always amazed at the amount of intellectual capital that was being under utilised within the community of stay at home parents (both Mums & Dads). This was one of the drivers that prompted us to form Consulting WorX because although this workforce required flexibility in their working hours, their high level of skills and low overheads makes it a very compelling community to engage.

Just to give an example, one mother was a partner in a tier 1 accounting firm when she decided to put her career on hold and stay at home to raise her two young preschoolers. She was being charged out at $250 - $300 per hour for her services in the firm, but once at home she started looking for bookkeeping work around her area and charged her services out at $50 per hour. Although her skill level hadn't changed, she did now require greater flexibilty in her working hours. As long as the business was able to provide this flexibility, they were saving at least $200 per hour straight to the bottom line.

Before sending jobs off overseas, all I'd ask is for a business to take a look at stay at home working parents as a viable consideration. (& yes I'm a stay at home working Mum too).
Thanks
Patrina
