I recently purchased The Financial Times Guide to Business Networking and I recommend it for anyone who does any form of networking, whether online or face-to-face. It's full of tips and useful ideas on how to network the right way.

Some recent books I've read (excluding some excellent ones already recommended):

The Personal MBA - Josh Kaufman - It does tend to only touch on a lot of subjects but that is the point. The idea is that he's read 100's of books and picked the best bits then has a recommended reading list. It's a great way to read about a variety of concepts and choose those you want to delve further into from his top 100 reading list. He does try and sell you on the fact you don't need a MBA which I actually agree with his reasoning. However at the same time I've decided to still enroll in a program anyway to apply to my business, networking and my ego.

Blink: The power of thinking without thinking - Malcolm Gladwell
This book is just amazing on understanding how your 'adaptive unconscious' works.. He calls this concept 'thin slicing'. It's just amazing read on how easily we are influenced by our environment unconsciously and really have no idea how we come up with our snap decisions. Next time someone says to you "How did you come up with that idea?" instead of making something up you'll say "I don't know; it just came to me" because that's probably the truth!
Extremely entertaining; maybe not the easiest book to profit from except to amaze someone at a networking event with some very interesting anecdotes..

Hi everyone,

I would be interested in a real practical book on Sales Strategies/Techniques.

Any recommendations?

Thank you!

Default I bought some books - do you know them?

Hi everyone,

I have purchased 2 business books and wondered if anyone knows them as they haven't been mention here:

- Rainmaking Conversations: Influence, Persuade, and Sell in Any Situation by
Mike Schultz & John E. Doerr

Rainmaking Conversations offers a research-based, field-tested, and practical selling approach that will help you master the art of the sales conversation. This proven system revolves around the acronym RAIN, which stands for Rapport, Aspirations and Afflictions, Impact, and New Reality. You'll learn how to ask your prospects and clients the right questions, and help them set the agenda for success.

- The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz

The Magic of Thinking Big gives you useful methods, not empty promises. Dr. Schwartz presents a carefully designed program for getting the most out of your job, your marriage and family life, and your community. He proves that you don't need to be an intellectual or have innate talent to attain great success and satisfaction -- but you do need to learn and understand the habit of thinking and behaving in ways that will get you there. This book gives you those secrets!

Will let you know what I think once I've read them.

Regards,
Mel

A thought provoking audio-book I have listened to recently is 'Outwitting The Devil' by Napoleon Hill. I think even most avid Napoleon Hill fans don't know this book exists.

For those who don't know Napoleon Hill, his book 'Think & Grow Rich' is the second most read book by the wealthiest 1% after the bible.

Hi Astrid,

It gets mentioned all the time in this forums and other business circles but I really cannot recommend it highly enough.

The E-Myth Revisited
- by Michael E Gerber.

It is an absolute classic. I regularly buy copies for clients that are struggling. It should be essential reading for all small business owners.

Cheers,

Brett
