Product recalls
If a product is defective or unsafe, or likely to cause damage or injury in any way, it should be recalled as soon as possible. If a consumer suffers serious injury from such products, suppliers can be liable under the product liability provisions of the Trade Practices Act 1974 or under common law.
Unsafe products are usually recalled from the marketplace by the supplier.
What to do...
- Read the Product safety recall - a guide for suppliers, which tells suppliers how to recall unsafe consumer products.
- Check current recalls on the Product Recalls website.
- See who has to be told when a product needs to be recalled.
