Prohibited & restricted goods
Some goods are prohibited or have restrictions so you need to check with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service before you import them. The Customs Information and Support Centre (CISC) can provide general information about Customs procedures in relation to prohibited and restricted goods.
Importing Chemicals
All importers and manufacturers of industrial chemicals for commercial purposes must register with the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS). Registration involves an annual registration fee.
What to do...
- See prohibited and restricted imports to find out if the goods you intend to import are prohibited or require a permit.
- Contact the CISC by telephone on 1300 363 263 or by e-mail at information@customs.gov.au.
- See the NICNAS website for information for industry.
