I’m hearing more of my fellow soloists talk about business burnout lately. From what I can tell, it typically starts when we take on too much.

The great news though is that there are ways to avoid burnout. An organised marketing plan is a good place to start. A solid plan can help get you back on track and avoid the dreaded burnout.

Ultimately, It’s all about being organised, and that takes time, which at burnout stage is a very precious commodity. So, to clear your thinking, here are some marketing plan tips.

  • Ensure your marketing plan is achievable: A sound marketing plan will ensure you approach your marketing in a staggered way so you don’t take on everything at once.
  • Measure your results: Whenever you undertake a marketing activity, measure your results to ensure what you’re doing is working. All too often people do too much at once, and therefore keep doing things that don’t work. Measuring your results ensures you don’t waste energy and money that could be put to better use.
  • Plan your days and commit a certain amount of time to marketing: Ensure you plan your days effectively. Make time for marketing as well as other things in your business, like client work. If you allocate two hours per day to marketing, make sure you have a task list to follow based upon the marketing activity you’re focusing on. This keeps you on track, so you won’t become overwhelmed.
  • Hire or subcontract help to ‘help’ you: As an outsourced marketing professional, I can attest to the value of hiring a professional to help you with the development and implementation of your marketing strategy. By doing this, you not only free up your time, but you also avoid the common problem of ‘hit and miss’ marketing, which will inevitably cause you more stress and money.
  • Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight: It takes time to grow your business and success is something that takes time. You just need a plan in place and this realistic belief in mind all the time.

These tips may sound straightforward and simple, but you’d be surprised how many business owners fail to implement them. Start making changes in your business right now and avoid business burnout by taking action today.
