Flying Solo came onto the scene in late 2000, launching its free, opt-in email newsletter in January 2001. Word-of-mouth referral has seen subscription to this weekly newsletter grow to over 14,000.
This website launched in July 2005 to coincide with the publication of Flying Solo - How to go it alone in business - a book written by Robert Gerrish & Sam Leader, published by Allen & Unwin. By January 2006 the site was attracting over 12,200 visitors and 82,800 page views per month.
We now attract over 27,000 unique visitors and 120,000 page views per month. Thanks to growing awareness and our new program of search engine optimisation, these figures are rising steadily.
Understanding Micro Business, 2008 is Australia’s largest solo & micro business survey. It was conducted by Flying Solo and published on Tuesday 20 May, 2008.
The survey was undertaken over two weeks in March 2008. There were 1,770 participants, all members of the Flying Solo www.flyingsolo.com.au community. This figure represents approximately 12.6% of the Flying Solo email database.
As well as comprehensive statistics covering demographics, behaviours, business challenges, income and general business information, we also unearthed some fascinating and surprising findings. Read a summary of our key findings here.

For those wishing to say more we have Promotional Features, which work much like an advertorial feature in a magazine.
