What’s the biggest challenge you face at work…?
By far and away, trying not to become a pseudo Fabric Store, by buying much more fabric than I can sew with!
…and how do you propose to overcome it?
I’m seeking a therapist who deals specifically in textile-induced illnesses. All enquiries welcome.
What do you wear to meetings?
Well, I don’t need to wear my ‘posh’ clothes, they can stay in the wardrobe for weddings and christenings.
I do wear smart casual though, and always aim to have some pink somewhere on my person!
If you overheard someone talking about you, what would you like to hear?
“Who would have thunk it”, relating to my transition from mathematician to designer.
Would you rather be poor and brilliant or rich and stupid?
Rich and stupid. If you were stupid enough to not know it, it wouldn’t be a problem, would it?!
What’s your favourite film?
Anything I’ve managed to stay awake for the whole movie for, which narrows it down to a small field. I’d say Titanic was possibly up there, Crying Game also.
What’s your favourite flavoured ice-cream?
Vanilla ice cream, but with a Tim Tam crumbled over the top.
What’s the cheapest, most effective bit of marketing you’ve ever done?
Wearing my own Half Apron to markets, it’s instantly obvious what it’s for, is eye-catching and translates to sales.
What’s the most obscure business request you’ve ever had?
To make a batch of hundreds and hundreds of blankets that are, and I quote, "Hotel quality but home-brand price".
What actress would play the lead in the story of your life?
Sibylla Budd, the actress who played Gabi in The Secret Life of Us.
You’ve got a free half hour during your work day. What do you do?
Check out some overseas decorating magazines for inspiration, whilst sitting out in the garden with the dogs
What’s your proudest moment?
Seeing my products featured in Country Home Ideas, without me having done the ‘marketing thing’. They found me and asked me!
