
Most soloists appreciate the importance of making calls to prospects, but often we get too busy and it never gets done.
We leave the job until last and the next minute, we wonder why we have not got any more work coming in.
If you are a solo entrepreneur, I recommend you do ten prospecting calls at the beginning of every day before looking at the phone messages, email and post. If you really can’t find the time, then hire a telemarketer or salesperson to do this for you. But please make sure you get them trained. Letting an untrained salesperson loose on your phone could lose you more business than you gain.

But it is not only the prospecting by phone that you have to do, you are missing out on business if you do not follow up every quote you send out, every bit of information you mail out , every person who buys from you plus your past and existing customers to stay in touch.
I know from doing 100 telemarketing calls a day to follow up information sent out about the Anthony Robbins and Tom Hopkins seminars I was promoting that I could turn a 1% response from the mail out into a 20% success rate very easily. As I worked on a commission basis only, I made sure I followed up every piece of mail I sent out to earn a good living.
If you are not wanting to pick up the phone, it is simply because you have a fear of rejection, no set goals or no confidence in your own telephone selling ability. This is normally the case if you have never attended a telesales training skills course. You fumble through calls, get no results and do anything to avoid having to make more calls.
