In our solo business, dominated at times by big, hairy goals, it’s very easy to overlook the importance and value of smaller successes. In this little end-of-year exercise, I invite you to stop and answer three simple questions. It’ll only take a minute or two.
So stop for a moment and take a look at your business. Then consider:
1. What are you happiest about right now?
The answer is likely to pop up pretty quickly, it may relate to an event, action or feeling that is very current.
If I think of Flying Solo – as I tend to do - I’d answer that I’m most happy about the fact we have a business that is so well supported and that’s such fun to work in.
2. What are you most excited about?
Again answering from a business perspective this should stop you in your tracks as it’s asking you to look deeper and connect with a very energetic feeling.
For me, excitement comes from thinking about the next evolution of the business and the prospect of seeing the ideas and concepts we have up our sleeve come to fruition.
3. What are you proudest of?
Hmm. This can really make people stop and ponder as it’s not often we consider which of our actions create a feeling of pride.
Here at FS, I’m proudest of our growing community and how ready and willing everyone is to offer support and encouragement to each other.
So how did you go? I find this an invaluable series of questions whenever I come across someone who is not allowing themselves to acknowledge the present.
Please share your responses and let’s celebrate the wins that really mean something.
That’s all from us for 2007, we’re having a short break and will be back in your inbox from 8 January. Don't eat too many mince pies!
Until next time.

Proudest of: how I have helped others. Evan from Sydney
Happiest: That I have clients! (We are still fairly new.)
Excited: The positive responses from the public and other professionals on the services I offer.
Proud: That I believed in myself enough to know that this business will be a success. Jody from www.boutiquemoney.com.au from Brisbane
Happiest, excited and proud of the book I launched just over 12 weeks ago! 12 months ago I didn't really think I could do it and now it's in bookstores around Australia and available online here as well as in the US. Book reviews are out in magazines and online and I'm getting great feedback from readers. Book number 2 is in my mind and I look forward to getting started on that during the holiday season. Merry Christmas Robert and Happy New Year - oh, and I won't eat too many mince pies but can't say the same for chocolate :D Kathie M. Thomas, A Clayton's Secretary from Melbourne, Victoria
Happy: I'm happiest about the success my candle business has experienced in 2007. What a step up. Excited: The "next evolution" is what you said, Robert, and I think that's it. I'm excited about the growth available to me in 2008. New clients. New consultants. Endless possibilities. Proud: I'm most proud of being a soloist. Working for myself (and making it work financially) is the most satisfying work experience I've had. It fills me with pride to say that I work for myself!
Happy holidays to you all (writers and readers).
