The Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 covers national safety and environmental requirements for all vehicles manufactured in Australia. Under the Act, manufacturers and importers must also comply with the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) that cover fuel consumption labelling requirements.
A fuel consumption label must be attached to the front windscreen of all new vehicles sold in Australia. The label indicates how many litres of fuel a vehicle will use, and enables consumers to compare vehicles with good fuel efficiency and lower greenhouse impact.
