You’ve got a free half hour during your work day. What do you do?
Play with my 3 month old baby boy, Guy. I know every parent says it but he is seriously adorable.
Would you describe yourself as a technophobe or technophile?
Technophile for sure. I started programming when I was about 8 years old and have a passion for software to this day.
What's the biggest thing you've learnt this year?
Positioning and branding is not about what you say or do but about what space you occupy in the mind of the prospect.
What’s your proudest moment?
Receiving customer testimonials makes me extremely happy. When I hear someone who actually paid to use something I dreamed up and created with my bare hands, and says it is a fabulous software, makes me very proud indeed.
What’s your favourite film, book and album?
Sixth Sense. I’m a sentimental guy and just love the part when the mum hears that her dead mother is proud of her ‘every day’.
What’s the smartest bit of marketing you’ve ever done?
I have a feeling it is bordering on being illegal but it works a charm. We publish a “new” (<12 months old) free small business directory which gains a lot of traffic – bang in the centre of our target market.
What’s the biggest challenge you face at work?
Create a new category, Micro business management software, to break away from the existing accounting software dominated by MYOB.
What website do you visit every day?
Google analytics. It was made for guys like me.
What star sign are you? Do you believe in horoscopes?
Aquarius, like everybody else I only believe the good things they tell about me.
What book are you reading?
Everything! I went from 0 to 100 in marketing. I go through 2 or more marketing books a week and I will keep going until I can have an intelligent conversation with a marketing expert.
How did your school report describe you (in three words)?
I got kicked out of multiple schools and came back to score a perfect 100.
Can you stop at just one chocolate biscuit/savoury snack?
No way! Chocolate kept me up at the long nights it took to create Nominal.
