What is Driving Business Online?

Driving Business Online is a national educational initiative founded by PayPal Australia in partnership with the Australia Retailers Association, Flying Solo and eBay. Its primary aim is to provide small businesses across Australia the tools and guidance to launch or grow their business online.

In its second year, the educational roadshow will visit eight towns across Australia. A dedicated independent Driving Business Online website will provide SMBs with further support tools to help small regional businesses compete online.

Why is getting online important for business owners?

According to the preliminary results of a Roy Morgan study commissioned by PayPal Australia, businesses who have been quickest to get online were more likely to have grown revenue and staff.

In the last year, business growth increased by an average of five per cent for those who have sold online for at least 12 months; however, business declined four per cent for those that don’t sell online or haven’t sold online for at least a year.

Flying Solo’s Understanding Micro Business survey supports these findings. Robert Gerrish said: “We know that the top three reasons SMBs set up their own business are flexibility, control and an improved lifestyle. These are all important benefits in being online and operating where and when suits them the best; however, only 13 per cent have a website that actually brings in business.”

According to recent Australian Bureau of Statistics data (26 June 2012), 57 per cent of businesses currently have no online presence, and nearly three out of four (72%) do not receive orders via the internet. So there’s plenty of room for improvement!

We’d love to see you there!
