Work in the Nude Day

Celebrating the freedoms of working from home

What is the only work environment where you can wear your birthday suit to work?
The home office!

On Friday 7 December, 2012, Flying Solo established the nation’s inaugural  Work in the Nude Day – a day devoted to rejoicing in the freedoms of working by yourself, from your home. Scroll down for some wonderful photos!

With over 500 official participants and hundreds more joining in the fun from the privacy of their home offices, the day gave all involved the chance to take full (monty) advantage of the flexibility and freedom of running their own business from home.

To show the world just how liberating working from home can be, many supporters posted self-portraits on the Facebook event wall wearing nothing but their birthday suits – tastefully composed, of course! (Scroll down for a selection of ‘selfies’.) Those who couldn’t or preferred not to work unclad were encouraged to dress up however they wished, whether in their pyjamas or a superhero costume – such is the freedom of being your own boss!

Spirits ran high all day on the Flying Solo forums, Facebook, and Twitter (using the hashtags #WorkintheNudeDay and #WITND) as solo and micro business owners around the country embraced their unique freedom to dress for success in whatever way they liked. Check out this video of our editor Jodie McLeod getting into the spirit of the day!

As well as creating awareness of the rewarding lifestyle that running a solo business can give to working Australians, Flying Solo's Work in the Nude Day also showed off what a supportive network the Flying Solo community provides.

As Flying Solo founder Robert Gerrish said in a Fairfax article written about the day: "We hope to attract the attention of the many thousands of home-based businesses who may be ... in search of an active, friendly bunch of like-minded people." And that, we did.
