COVID’s inspired many people to rethink the way they work and for a surprisingly large number of Australians that’s manifested in finding the motivation and confidence to kickstart a small business or side-hustle.
One of the upsides of starting a business from a long-held hobby or passion is that you’ve (usually) already got the tools and expertise required to make your product or service. What you don’t always have access to is a marketplace to sell your skills or product and that’s where Fiverr.com comes in.
Fiverr is the world’s largest marketplace for digital freelancers that helps them find and connect with business owners and buyers at every stage of a project.
Neva Read took the leap from the corporate agency world where she oversaw digital marketing for clients such as the Commonwealth Bank and Toyota/Lexus, to start her own business The Artful Brand.
Neva told Flying Solo once having started her business she was really mindful of wanting to work intentionally in the areas that would make her money, and that’s where she turned to Fiverr.
“I wanted to focus on the actual consulting work and not on spending hours generating a regular pipeline of sales and leads so I looked around for a credible leads source and found Fiverr,” she said.
“To meet the needs of Fiverr’s core base then, most of whom were SMEs and micropreneurs, I developed a new brand identity specifically for them – as The Brand Ninja, where I offered tailored marketing services at prices that would suit startups and entrepreneurs. It took about six months of a consistent presence on the platform but it soon began paying off with credible leads each week that translated into a great turnover. I also began to attract larger corporations and brands as well which has been a great bonus/value add.”
Running her own business has been extremely rewarding for Neva and she describes her clients from small and medium business who can’t afford large agency fees or huge teams as her “true passion”.
“They’re hungry for success, usually super smart and just need direction, messaging/branding and strategic advice to get them going. With them, I focus on cut through, cost effective ideas, hacks and product offer benefits that connect rather than over stylised and expensive executions that miss the mark.”
Not only has Neva enjoyed success spruiking her own expertise on Fiverr Pro, a tier of the site that offers exceptional talent, she’s also used some of Fiverr’s services within her own business.
“I’ve found and worked with some extremely talented people on the platform from web designers to SEO specialists – many of them freelancing as well while juggling major projects at corporates such as Facebook and Google. They’re some of the best in the industry and the collaboration aspect is one major benefit of Fiverr. It means I can introduce my clients to other professionals I’ve personally worked with who also offer cost effective executional options via the same platform.”
