What does a mortgage broker actually do?

A big misconception is that mortgage broking is all about numbers, rates and calculators.  The reality is it’s about people, relationships, empathy and conversations.

Put simply, a mortgage broker facilitates the transaction between the borrower and the lender. A good mortgage broker takes the time to listen to the needs and circumstances of the borrower, match them with the right home loan, and manage the application process for them.

Mortgage brokers earn an income on the settlement of a loan and, depending on the lender, may also receive trail commission.

What you need to be successful

Passion. You don’t need a degree, but you do need to work hard. The first year, like in any new business, can be the most challenging.  You’ll soon discover that putting hard work in during the short term, can pay off for you financially in the long term.

People skills. Successful brokers enjoy connecting with their local community, and make the effort to connect with all types of people to help them with one of life’s biggest purchases.
