A friend runs a cleaning business in Melbourne, he started out by checking rental listings then mailing an offer to the tenants to do their bond clean, he also approached a number of real estate agents around bond cleaning also – these are dirty and low paid but will help pay the bills at first.

Door knocking and letterbox drops (he did it all himself at first) worked reasonably well for him. Doorknocking may not be so great for you because there will be a good chance the housewife will open the door during the daytime. Maybe there are professional womens groups you could advertise with or approach with offers to target double income households.

You want to build up repeat business. My friend is now focused on just steam cleaning but home cleaning itself should be weekly if not more often in terms of repeat customers.
