When you open an account, then you can only accept payments for that account in the name that the account was opened in.

This usually only affects cheque payments, as the bank will usually only accept the cheque if it matches the name of the account exactly.

We have a business account which was opened in the company’s name, but we have also added additional registered trading names to the account, so that we can accept payments made out to those trading names as well.
