Why not look at it a different way? Instead of hourly, why not set a weekly or monthly rate which equals up to xx number of hours per week or month?

I’ve done that for a client who I began doing work for, 4 months ago. I gave him 3 options with up to 25 hours a month, up to 40 hours a month and up to 75 hours a month or thereabouts. The higher the number of hours the lower the rate turned out on an hourly basis. He took the higher paid option for up to 25 hours a month and that’s been working fine for us. For the most part I’ve been doing between 22-25 hours each month – at my own premises and occasionally go in to see him.
