Few people expect paper invoices included with shipments these days – email is generally fine.

As for delivery dockets:
If you’re sending single-item shipments to individuals then no.

If you’re sending shipments to businesses, or with multiple items then include a delivery docket. This is absolutely essential if you part-ship orders so you can indicate the quantities shipped and quantities back-ordered.

As Ytelco noted, at all but the smallest companies, the person responsible for receiving incoming goods is often not the person who placed the order, so don’t assume the person who opens the box is going to know what should be in it, or who to give it to. A delivery docket showing the customers purchase order number answers both these questions.
