They will most likely attract more click throughs, but Google doesn’t like fake reviews and considers them the same as spam: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/request.py?hl=en&contact_type=rich_snippets_spam

I even believe it is illegal to have fake reviews for your product in several countries, nut sure about Australia.

You can create rich snippets for other purposes too though, perhaps this page might be of use if you want to start experimenting.

How much should we be using “rich snippets” and what real impact do these have on SEO and click-throughs?

From what I’ve read, it sounds like these are more for “how” you appear in Google results rather than “where” you appear. You can include additional info about your business/product (which may help with click-throughs): they’re less likely to make any difference to where you appear on the page.

I’m wondering what (if anything) you think it’s worth coding up as snippets.

BTW, a competitor has recently started using snippets to give himself a 5-star rating based on thousands of customer reviews (that don’t appear anywhere on his site). If we’re able to include pretty much anything we want in snippets without having to back it up, I wonder how much value they’ll have moving forward, and whether it’s worth spending any time on them.

Thanks!
Gail
