A purchase order is most useful in larger businesses, they are used as a source document to authenticate purchases by providing prior authorisation. In a small business setting PO’s can be useful but often just provide another thing to do.

In regards to expenses incurred prior to business conception you can forward date the invoices in MYOB where they are a legitimate business expense.
