Because that’s what he asked for:

i want to add some adsense into the homepage withing the actual product listings….so say after the 7th product image the next block would be an adsense advert…

If he wants to integrate advertisements into his products, the number of columns won’t make a difference to this process, he’ll have to choose a frequency regardless.
