I am a graphic designer, I work full time for a company and during the year did some extra freelance work on the side. The total earnings for my freelance work was $5000.
I lodged my tax return and have been asked by the tax department to provide a PAYG summary for this work. My question is can I just generate one myself?
I havn’t yet paid tax on this money. I included the details of this in my tax return.
When you say freelance work, were you engaged as employee by the business (they deduct PAYG withholding and should issue a payment summary) or were you engaged as a contractor in which case you would have issued them with an invoice with your ABN on it (with or without GST)?
