My farm business was originally a market garden specialising in rare and unusual vegetables to sell fresh to local towns and close cities. When the biosecurity law changed for taking my produce over the border to my nearest city, really my best income source, and made it so much harder and more expensive I did some asking around and decided to grow my vegetables for seed instead.
It was the best decision I could make because not only do I like this business better now, but I am the only persona in Australia with a rare vegetable seed business – nearly all vegetable seed is imported and the import laws are getting so strict that seed companies are calling all the time to buy seed.
Being forced to change my business model worked well for me. I like the idea of a combines gallery and cafe so I hope it goes well for you.
