Other factors to consider for each

  • Those first three are businesses and there may be some unpaid hours per week. Say 20 unpaid hours per week work. That is an additional factor in your return on investment. A hidden cost outflow to take into account with options 1 to 3.
  • You may learn something in the first three businesses that has intrinsic knowledge value to you (better than say a $75k uni degree). A hidden benefit (inflow) to take into account with options 1 to 3
  • They each will have different risk profiles so a comparison between them as alternatives is not a case of apples and apples. Your term deposit may have zero risk of loss of capital whereas the small business has significant risks – all else the same you need a premium return to compensate for the extra risk (otherwise why would you go with the more risky option to earning the same amount of money).
