Wordpress is built for the developer more than the end user / business owners. There is a lot of routine tasks that need to happen to ensure all elements continue to function efficiently and reliably. Either you spent lots of time out of most peoples depth to keep on top of this or you engage a professional to take care of it all. In my opinion it can be at least a few hours per month to keep on top of everything if you are relying on your site to actually have a good ROI, rather than just be something on the internet as point of presence.
