..when starting and growing a business.

These two factors will give you the upper hand if fund raising is required for growth and expansion.

ofcourse there are other important elements like the 3 financial statements but even an investment banker will tell you that those come later.

    which 2?

Hint 1 : They go hand in hand.

    Hint 2: they are measurable.

The ability to show that you can produce growth and profit and therefore results. If you can’t show traction you have a business that is not attractive to invest in.

Also legal leg-work needs to be covered as well to be a viable and professional business.

I believe I have been watching too much shark tank.

    Person in the team
    Marketing plan of course

I really cannot understand why some people are making excellent products but ignoring the marketing part.

Two things that would go hand in hand and that are measurable and would end up on your financial statements:

    (1) revenue stream(s)

this would include your pricing/value adding which should be measurable and therefore able to project or forecast for starting a new business or growing an existing one

    (2) cashflow forecast

creating 2 or 3 scenarios for business growth can indicate the financing requirement for which a bank or investor could make a good part of their assessment on – after all it is a lot about the money right?

Example: I was working with a business in the home brew industry and they are creating their own brand of flavours. The “guestimated” they required about $50,000 to launch this, but then we ran 3 scenarios…

    (1) organic growth (slow) – they needed a total short term loan/financing of $700 for one month
    (2) more likely fast growth – they needed a maximum of $25,000 in one month and financing all up for 2 months
    (3) if things went out of control… they needed a maximum of $35,000 in one month and total short term financing was needed for 4 months.
