Hi All
I am looking to start my first online business. I know what products I want to sell, what sort of look and feel I want the company to have, company name, suppliers I could use, and have done some research into the industry but I really am in the early stages and am looking for someone to provide some 1:1 mentor guidance to help me set it up for success. I have been reading a lot of threads on this forum but would really benefit from some more personalised advice.
A bit about me – I have worked in offices for 15+ years in project coordination – end to end $100m project implementation for big companies but have never really felt challenged, although the roles have been demanding I never had any issues performing above expectations and quite often found myself bored and hating the corporate culture, never felt like I fit in and have never been passionate about the companies I have worked for. I want to focus on what I am interested in and generating my own income.
Outside of the corporate world I have studied performing arts for most of my life which is what I love to do most but it is hard to generate money through that field so I am looking to start an online business with a product I love and use every day and would love to bounce the idea off someone who is more experienced in this field and could offer me some guidance to get me going.
My dream is to create my own income so I don’t have to fall back on corporate roles/contract jobs etc to make ends meet, lose the commute (travelling 4 hours per day to work in the city), have more flexibility in my day to allow for performing arts opportunities, build my business knowledge and self branding and to earn money in products and services that I love.
Thanks so much for your time!
ZoeApril 1, 2015 at 5:47 am #1181149Up::0Sounds like investing in a business/life coach would be a good idea for you Zoe. You seem to have direction, focus and enthusiasm so it’s just a matter of planning it all out.
Good luck with it, hope to see you around here and watch your progress.

Up::0Hi Zoe, and welcome to the gang
Your excitement for your plan really shines through your words, and I hope you find the right person to help you bring it all to life.
As Jodi suggested, engaging a business coach might be the right place to start.
I also recommend sharing at least a little about your plan here so that it’s easier for people to work out whether they can help you. For example, can you share the industry or market sector with us?
Whatever you decide, I hope it goes brilliantly for you.
Good luck, and thanks for joining the forum.

Thank you for your comments. i was a bit hesitant in listing my idea incase there was a huge flaw I had missed but I guess this is where you bounce ideas. In Belgium and NYC I came across a store, Oliviers & Co which I love. They sell olive oil, olive oil based beauty products, vinegars, dukka, accessories such as coasters for olive oil bottles, nice bottles with spouts, bread boards etc and have a cult following. I found this brand is not in Australia currently, but used to be. I got in touch with the store owner who had previous run this store here and they said they still get enquiries about this product and they carry a cult following. Now since I haven’t opened a retail store before I thought it would be best to adapt the idea for online. I got in touch with Oliviers and looked at their prices to run one of their retail stores here and thought it would be too ambitious in the initial stages and to start online first. I am looking to sell similar products online with products sourced from Australia and overseas. looking online there aren’t many places that offer a lot of high end olive oil products from different brands under the same site or accessories. Particularly in Australia.
I am thinking of having subscription boxes featuring different sample size products, recipes and uses for olive oil and news about the industry in addition to selling different olive oils, accessories and similar.

Your idea of a subscription box model sounds like it will be very interesting to research and find out more about.
And you’re right – this is definitely a good place to bounce ideas off other people and get advice/insight.
Cheers,
