    Hi All

I am in hospitality consulting… and one of the issues I have run into my first few months of practice, is that I am continuously referring my clients to “their accountant”. What has come to light very obviously is that in a lot of cases they a) Don’t have an accountant B) The most frequent case is that their accountant doesn’t serve their needs. By this I mean, Cafe’s, Restaurant and Pubs, operate considerably differently then most organization… in a lot of cases my clients are Ex Chefs or Restaurant Managers, passionate about what they are doing, but probably not very good in finance… to the point that some of my customers perceive going to their Accountant as an equivalent to going to the Dentist!

So what I am looking for is to partner with a different type of accountant. Someone open to working patiently with hospitality professionals, on what some times are basic concepts. Ideally on location at the venue or online. I say on location as that is the only way to understand the customer and their business. Melbourne based preferable. An individual with some understanding of the industry, but most importantly, lots of patience and empathy and positive energy. Not looking for referral fees, just a solid partner for mutual success.

Please shoot me a message if you are keen. If you are not an entrepreneur, or work in a nice firm with a steady salary this is probably not for you.

    Cheers
    Ken

    Hi Ken,

Just a quick note, depending on what type of assistance your clients need – you might be better partnering with a BAS Agent/Qualified Bookkeeping practice. BAS Agents are able to advise and assist with a great range of ‘inside business’ needs including the basics like GST but also up to date reporting, engaging employees, entitlements, benefits and claims that go through the business.

You will also find that BAS Agents are usually ones who work in and with the business on a regular (daily, weekly, monhtly) basis and often work/travel to the client sites. It’s not as expensive and we often work with start-up businesses. The majority of clients who need extra assistance (from a contact person only to a full set of books/accounting) are ones with technical expertise rather than business knowledge.

Have a look around for either an Accounting or Bookkeeping practice that works ‘on the ground’ with clients and uses a range of softwares and who isn’t just an in/out service but likes to provide the information to the client that will help them to better their business. You’re partnership would benefit greatly if they are happy to do all that.

    Happy searching.

    Hi Ken,

I love the idea of you teaming your industry-specific expertise with some financial know-how for your clients, and suspect there will be a few people around here who would like to chat more with you about it and will drop by to connect with you soon.

In the meantime, you might like to check out the Melbourne-based accountants and bookkeepers in our directory to see if anyone jumps out at you as being the right person.

And by the way, thanks for joining Flying Solo! We’re delighted you’re here. :)

    Nice to meet you,
    Jayne

    Hi Ken,
I am not exactly what you are looking for but I work for a Sydney based accounting firm in a division that specialises in Hospitality and Gaming.

We offer monthly accounting services as well as year end. With most of our clients we do all the weekly bookkeeping, even pay creditors and payroll as well as producing a monthly management report for them. As we are accountants we also do all the compliance work such as BAS, and payroll tax if necessary.

This allows our clients to get on with the business of running their business

As we have a number of clients in that space we are also able to advise on things like industry standards to give businesses an idea of how they are running compared to their competitors.

Our systems are all completely cloud based so the clients can log on and get information themselves if they are interested. We mainly work with clients in Sydney but do have some interstate and outside of Sydney, although none currently in Melbourne.

I would love to chat with you further if you are interested!

    Hi Ken,

I may provide the services you are looking for and are based in Melbourne. I don’t specialise in Hospitality and Gaming but have worked across many industries and believe I meet all the other criteria you mentioned above.

Our services include transactional accounting, financial and management reporting, corporate compliance and other business services. In a common engagement we would manage our clients bookkeeping, creditor payments, payroll and provide meaningful monthly management reports. We normally would also process the annual financial report.

Furthermore, our services can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of a client’s business and normally we work on a fixed fee based so there are no surprises later on.

Please go to http://www.bluedenimcorporate.com for more information and contact me should you wish to progress the conversation further.

    Good luck in any case.

    Kind Regards
    Brad Slade
