So it seems Australia Post are trying to be innovative with the introduction of new mail lockers
Seems parcels are their big money spinner.
However if they wanted to be truly innovative, perhaps they should consider making it easier to POST parcels.
How can they do this?
1. Stop closing post offices
2. Make post office locations more user friendly. Having them inside shopping centres and malls makes acces impossible when you have 15 large cartons to lodge.
3. Ensure staff are trained – to suggest that parcels will be stored outside of their doors, either in a corridor, in the public area is not acceptable.
4. Offer their parcel pickup service in more than a few capital city locations.
5. Become more price competitive. Most courier companies are now cheaper with everything from satchels (and the couriers offer true tracking, not the untruth of tracking claimed by Australia Post) to large parcels. The new post lockers might be fine if you are receiving goods, but sending by Australia Post has become such a pain, that we have reduce our use of them by 75%.
Anyone else have thoughts on Aust Post?

October 11, 2012 at 10:47 am #1120693Up::0They’re making a big loss on parcels posted into Australia from certain countries, the UK is the biggest I can think of. When you buy from places such as The Book Depository (a large book online bookseller in the UK, in case this gets edited) you receive free or really cheap postage. Their postage is subsidised by a very large amount by Royal Mail to send parcels here, when the parcel reaches our beautiful and wide shores AusPost then pay for the postage to the buyer. I heard they’re losing $22m on parcels such as these.
I can buy a book from ‘that’ place, including postage, for less than I can buy the book wholesale, plus postage.

Over all, I think it is not only the postal services that are monopoly in Australia, Australians over pay for almost everything from properties to the simple gadgets and telecoms.
We need more competition…too much taxes.

When I went to the counter, the lovely lady advised me it would actually be about $3 cheaper to post it express post, which would arrive in 2-3 days.
Not sure when express postage became cheaper than regular!
