    Hi there

Would anyone be willing to assist with providing tips on how to locate a reputable manufacturer of either bamboo or muslin in China for a potential new baby blanket business?

I understand many are not willing to share the names of manufacturers but if you have any tips or even recommendations for sourcing agents etc. that would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    Katie

With this type of product and being a new venture, I would suggest that the first thing you need to look at is exactly what you want to do.

By that I mean, are you wanting to find the material supplier just to supply the material, with the goods to be made by you, or are you looking for someone to actually make the blankets.

One of the biggest issues you will face will be quantity. Most manufacturers of the actual fabric will only make a minimum quantity of material, especially if you are looking for something reasonably unique. This could be in the ‘000’s of metres.

So this may leave you with wholesalers, which would then depend on what stock there is readily available. Once again, if it is common colours it is much easier to get than something unique.

No if you are looking to have the blanket made, you will have the same issues. It will depend on your quantities and how common the material colours are.

Just to give you an example, I know a very good blanket manufacturer, but they work with coral/polar fleece. I have ordred from them before but I had no end of problem just trying to get the order quantity down to 500 blankets.

If you can offer a bit more info, maybe I can understand this a bit better.

But just starting out, depending on your quantities there may be local options that are better for you, at least until you are more established.

Do you want to make yours from scratch or would you like to be a retailer? This website is an Australian made muslin products business. Perhaps you could buy products at trade prices and embroider/print and onsell. Worth chatting to? http://www.kiwigreen.com.au/trade.html

    Hi there

Thanks for your responses. Essentially we have a number of designs which we want to dye onto white muslin or bamboo cotton. We are still investigating whether it is better to purchase the fabric from a wholesaler and then get a separate company to produce and dye the blankets or whether there is a company that will do everything? Any tips in this regard would be most welcome.

We would be starting out with small quantities which I know can cause issues when dealing with manufacturers and minimum orders. As such, it may be worth starting out with a local manufacturer, getting the prototype made here and then further down the line getting the products manufactured overseas.

We have really good designs so I am very keen to do this but am very open to hearing anyone’s advice on the best way they think to go about this.

    Thanks again.

Hi Katie, I still think it’s worth contacting KiwiGreen as they are manufacturers. They might be able to make small quantities for you. You would not be able to get small quantities from overseas. And you have the added bonus of them being 100% Australian and local rather than worrying about overseas shipping. Good luck.
