Im starting new business and need some help with doing my BAS. Does a telephone have GST?.. also if i hired two contractors, one who quoted there ABN and requested I did his PAYG for him. The other didnt quote his ABN. My question is where do i put them on the “GST calculation Worksheet” and do i put them in with there before or after tax? I’m thinking they would going go in G11 (non-capital purchases) and G14 (purchases without gst in the price). but i dont know if they should have there tax in there or not and which one.

Yes. You will see it shown on the account. “Tax Invoice” means that GST is included. “Invoice” generally means they are not registered or GST free. You can check if an ABN is registered for GST here http://abr.business.gov.au/AdvancedSearch.aspx

Enter the amount of the invoice because this is the expense to you. Whether you withhold tax or not, the total cost to you will still be the same.

    Hi Booloo,
With your contractors, if they are registered for GST it should state the amount of GST or say GST inclusive. You can also lookup their ABN to check if they are registered. The contractor, that didn’t put an ABN on his invoice then you should be withholding 49% tax in a no ABN category. At the very least, you shouldn’t claim GST credits on this one unless he provides you with a tax invoice that shows his ABN and you can verify he is registered.
The ATO have information on their website about invoices and claiming GST.

Telephone – generally will have GST and the bill should will generally show how much GST.
    Hope this helps
    Shelly
