    Hi Kurnai,

I assume you have read the articles at Wikipedia?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blogging

So, how does any of this relate to business?

IF you write regular great blog posts and/or tweets in a particular business related area AND the information you write about is great quality AND if you can get lots of people in your industry to read them .. THEN you have improved your standing within that community which you leverage (hopefully without pimping yourself to the highest bidder).

If you the say product “X” is a great product people will go and buy that product.

The problem is writing regular posts that are great quality and getting people from within your industry to read them.
I’m sure they are about 20 books you could read about how to do this ;)

Social Media tools such as Blogging & Twitter are used to interact with your customers and your market, but success as a result doesn’t come overnight. If your thinking of using these tools to build your standing in your market, you’ll have to be patient and committed.

    Hi Jody,
Great to see yourself throwing yourself into learning all this new stuff with such gusto! Go girl!

This is a good place to read up on blogging: http://www.flyingsolo.com.au/p201543193_Internet-marketing-The-basics-of-blogging-for-business.html

And this is a good start on Twitter: http://www.flyingsolo.com.au/p303444489_Twitter-The-Next-Big-Thing.html?&c=2

When you’re on those pages you will also see a smorgasbord of other blogging- and Twitter-related articles listed in the blue box to the right of the article.

    Hope they help!

I use my blog to post relative information “stuff” for my clients to read. I’m not so much trying to win new customers with the blog (tho’ that would be nice) as in I’m trying to offer something to keep my current clients loyal.

It will help the image of what I’m trying to project.

As for Twitter. I use it personally and professionally (read: I have multiple “personalities” on twitter). I’ve found great support on a personal level – real good community. Business wise I use it as a way to network and gain information more than anything.

“For me the power of Twitter lies in what you learn from other people, and I don’t care whether they follow me or not.”

    Hi Kurnai,

I have been coming to grips with Twitter myself recently, and as they say – teach what you most need to learn – so had written a blog post mainly for myself :)

    http://onlineiq.biz/_blog/onlineiq_blog/post/Social_Marketing_-_From_Twit_to_Twitterati/

Its basically about just getting started, experimenting and learning.
    Hope it helps a bit.

As for blogging – this is great for building reputation in your area of expertise – it helps to demonstrate that you do have knowledge and expertise in your area.

Why Your Business Should Focus on Social Media and NOT Google Rank

    http://thechrisvossshow.com/?p=867

    interesting video!

One of the comments to this article says it best for me: Part instant message, part email, part micro-blog it fills a void that email and IM cannot keeping me in touch with friends while also introducing me to new people and ideas.

and that’s why I love twitter.
