    Hi,

I had a search around and couldn’t find much about this.

I am looking into setting up a business that rather buys items off the customer as opposed to selling it to them, therefore a different checkout system is required.

Shopify obviously does not work for this as their platforms checkout system is rigid.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thank you

Could you provide some further details such as the workflow of events how it’s suppose to work?

For example will you post up a product which is a want to buy, and someone comes along can says I have this product and you can buy it off me. I presume you wouldn’t want this purchase to be automated as you would need to evaluate the seller’s product and ability not to scam you.

Say they have a product which we purchase, they select on the correct product, checkout.

Here they are required to input information, or login with existing details.

After they checkout, they will be prompted to choose to print out something or get us to send them out a pack.

Once the product arrives we inspect it and then make payment to them.

Will it be similar to Gazelle?
    https://www.gazelle.com

So the user selects their product with options, an offer is made and accepted but no money given until the product is inspected.

In my mind the site would mostly be pretty standard, the big difference obviously being the payment options, shipping and the text copy e.g. ‘Sell Now’ instead of ‘Buy now’.

In terms of platforms, you’re most likely looking for a self hosted system such as Woocommerce, Magento, Opencart etc.
These allow a developer to make changes to the platform more easily than hosted platforms such as Shopify, Bigcommerce etc.

How are you going to build the site? Are you going to hire an agency/developer or are you looking to try and build it yourself?

    Yes actually.

I’m not too sure atm whether I will do it myself or get someone else to do it.

If I were to do it myself I would use themes from wordpress in conjunction with woocommerce.

What do you think the costs associated with a project like this for the website alone would be?

If you’re doing it in Woocommerce, then hopefully a Woocommerce specialist might put their 2 cents in. I’m not sure what they would charge to be honest.

If you’re doing it yourself, try to think how much your time is worth. I’d only suggest doing it yourself if you’re time rich and money poor.
I know of someone on another forum who claims to have done an ecommerce site for ‘nothing’, but they’ve spent months working on it and have probably taken double the number of hours a professional would.

WooCommerce could handle it for sure. It’s basically the same as a normal
Checkout with a few minor changeS.

We do a lot of woocommerce. Hit me up if you would like me info.

    Matt
