Hi,
I’m currently writing a book about how to buy and run a successful cafe. I am looking for people who are going to buy a cafe as I would like their feedback on the topics I am writing in my book. It would also be great to get some details of other people’s experiences of trying to buy a cafe. In return I am happy to assist with the purchasing process and assessment of the business.
I can be contacted at craig@theprocessninja.com or 0400731029
Regards,
Craig

I have lots of insights to offer now I think!

My hubby continues to say he wants his own cafe, but he’s not getting one!! Way too much work for too little return in my opinion.July 16, 2009 at 1:05 am #1003422Up::0divapromotions, post: 9271 wrote:Hey great idea. How’s it coming along?

Way too much work for too little return in my opinion. It often is that way sadly…although there are those out there that do very well. I think a lot of the problem is that people don’t understand the reality – it’s A LOT of hard, physical work.

I can totally empathise with you Howard. I went through exactly what you did setting up my first cafe with no hospitality experience http://www.trufflesmelbourne.com.au

This is my first post! I just joined…hello everyone I hope this works!
Would you be interested to know about Music in Cafes. What you need to know about fees to be paid, who to pay them to and also the importance of music – I mean background music – to these sorts of environments. Venues, Pubs, Cafes, Restaurants etc.
Cheers!
WendyJuly 23, 2009 at 1:49 pm #1003427Up::0Have a look here http://www.ppca.com.au/licensing_faq.htm
you need a licence to play music in a cafe and the cost depends on the seating capacity. However it is not expensiveJuly 24, 2009 at 3:46 am #1003428Up::0You will also need to pay APRA
Go HereTo “play” music you need to pay PPCA (Artists/Record Companies) & APRA (composers/writers).
You can not “copy” music without a license either. If you are not going to pay for a Music Provider (Emstream, DMX, SBA etc) then I would suggest playing CDs. You can not “copy” music from a CD to your iPOD or another CD or PC etc & play it in your business. You can do that for personal use but not commercial use.

July 25, 2009 at 2:43 am #1003429Up::0I have a question to ask about selling coffee in cafe’s.
If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated. If i opened a cafe, and sold roughly 10kg coffee per week, at $3.00 per coffee, how much money is that?
I dont know how much money is involved in selling coffee per kg…
Thanks in advance.
July 25, 2009 at 4:10 am #1003430Up::0A kilo of coffee makes around 100 cups so 10kgs @$3 a cup would give you a revenue of $3000.
Cost per cup is around 40cents (assuming most of the coffees are made with milk) so gross profit is $2,600 => $3000-(1000x$0.40)
Hope this helps :o)July 25, 2009 at 7:20 am #1003431Up::0Wow. Thanks for the reply. That more than answered my question. U really know your coffee.
By the way, is this really your cafe:
