    Hi,

I am looking for a business coach who specialises in small business. Preferably someone who offers a personalised service rather than a big company.

Anyone had any experience with a good coach?

I am a photographer, but they do not necessarily have had to had experience working with photographers.

    Cheers,

    Liz

Hi Melissa, thanks for the tip. Will check her out.

Thanks for your reply Paul. I guess I am looking for someone who can help me with strategic planning and probably general marketing advice.

    Hi Lizzy,

Sounds like you might be open to talking Darren Hughes of Turning Point Business Consulting (http://www.turningpointbc.com). As a licensee of the Better Business Institute he has the benefit of shared results of thousands of businesses but runs his own company. The ultimate in personalised service only limiting himself to a few quality businesses at any one time.

    Best wishes,

    Michelle

    Hi Lizzy
    I highly recommend Elaine Seager – phone 07 4053 4714 or visit http://www.elaineseager.com/

She is not in Melbourne, but runs coaching sessions by phone from Cairns. I have found my telephone sessions with her to be extremely effective and inspiring. One of my mates reckons that without Elaine’s coaching her business would have been half the size it is and her stress levels twice as high – pretty good recommendation huh? That’s what prompted me to consult with Elaine when I was at a crossroads, and her insights were invaluable.

In fact your post has prompted me to line up some more sessions with her – so thank you!

Hi Liz, I highly recommend my business coach, Margaret Gill. She is based in Daylesford and I have regular phone sessions with her, covering things like business planning and marketing. She specializes in working with people in a range of small businesses, esp in the early stages of establishing and developing their business. Margaret offers a complimentary session, so you can get an idea whether she is the right person for you. Her email details are [email protected] . She has made a big difference in many ways to the growth of my business. Sincerely, Lia Scomazzon

    Hi Lizzy.

Not personally, but one of the best places to find specific expertise is http://www.expertmagnet.com.

You can post a request, and coaches that can provide the expertise you are after will respond to you.

    Regards,
    Mark

    Hey Liz

Happy to have a chat to clarify what your needs are and to see if I can help.
My service is very personalised. I help define exactly what you want, and then create a strategic plan that you can actually follow. I hold your hand every step of the way.

I am currently writing a book called “101 way to maket for under $100 a month”. Feel free to call me on 0405 50 53 51 so I can get clearer on exactly the support you need.

    Have a great weekend!

    Maureen

    Hi All,

I know this post is rather old, but I came across it via Google and just wanted to add some comments from my perspective.

For background, I am a business coach, who started working as a solo operator, but have built a coaching practice. A team of coaches, each of us having our own area of speciality and industries or types of clients we prefer and enjoy working with. We tend to work with bigger businesses than the typical Flying Solo audience, however I hope these comments are useful to others and assist people in making the right choice.

    My thoughts…
    1. Ensure the coach you are looking to work with, has the required experience. Speak to them about the other types clients they work with and the types of strategies and topics they coach on. Each coach will have specific preferences and you need to ensure they fit with you.

    2. Empathy, accountability and strategy. All three are important in a coach. Firstly you want a coach that understands ‘you’ and respects you for who you are. However, that is not enough, they also need to be able to push you when required – getting more out of you and your business than you thought possible. Finally, they must have a good business brain. They must be able to steer you away from the strategies that aren’t relevant to you and your business and fast track you on the ones that are.

    3. Results and Testimonials. The best coach is one who has been recommended to you. However, if you can’t find someone via that means, then question the coach you are talking to. Ask them about the results they have achieved with other clients and ask to see their testimonials, to show the breadth of results they have achieved.

Finally, use your gut-instinct. If the coach you have met with and spoken to ‘feels’ right, then there is a good chance you are on the right track.

Hi this thread is now 7 years old so I’m not sure how relevant all the information is, but in 2015 I interviewed 3 Melbourne based coaches and eventually engaged Stuart Hayes on a 6 month coaching agreement. The reason I chose Stuart is because of his real world business background. He really seemed to ‘get’ my situation and understood that what I needed was some quick and easy to implement strategies so I could get a return on my investment, as well as some medium term strategic planning to help me better position the business for future success. I was very happy with the results after 6 months, we hit our revenue targets and I am continuing to work with him because the coaching is producing real results. Highly recommended.

    Hi

Welcome to the forums… and as you say this is quite an old thread, most recent post (aside from yours) is just over 2 years ago… reason i say this, is that combining the status of being a new user (poster as you have been on since March) and rehashing an old thread can sometimes be seen as purely a spruik of your intended ‘coach’ – as if you may be affiliated with the person/business you refer.

Best bet might be to let us know a little about you, head across and introduce yourself to the forum as your business acumen and success that you have so obviously gained by engaging a coach will show through your contributions and other shared information about you…

Most people will just look over this post as a blatant plug.. potentially..

Look forward to seeing you around and look forward to engaging with you in the forums.
