    Apologies, this is more only the personal side of tax than the business side:

    I acquired an asset (shares) by international telegraphic transfer and I am trying to work out which date I actually acquired the shares (for CGT):

    At the time I wired the money or the time the money was received, or something else?

    Hi Richard,

    Generally the relevant date for CGT purposes is the contract date, or date you contracted to buy the shares. For listed shares, that’s usually a few days before you have to pay for them, but in any event, it’s probably prior to when you sent the payment.
