    Hi Forum,

Thought I would post a financial question here about claiming expenses associated with parking regularly in the city (or purchasing a monthly parking space) through tax as a work deduction. In my head it seems plausible but then it might just be wishful thinking on my part.

Any research I have done in this area seems to be filled with contradicting statements. Was hoping an accountant would help me set the record straight.

    Cheers.

    Sean.

    Depends.

Do you work in the city, and are travelling from home to the city?

Or do you work from home/elsewhere and are travelling in to the city to meet with clients etc.?

The former will not be deductible.

The latter may be deductible, but will depend on your specific situation. If you want certainty on this matter, best sit down with an accountant for 30 mins, shouldn’t cost more than $100-150 give or take.

    Cheers

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for your response. My situation is the first you describe – I work in the city so drive from home each day to a parking space.

If I ever find myself as a sole trader I’ll look into my individual situation more with an accountant.

    Cheers.

    Sean.
