we hate it in real life, but sadly we have this imposed upon us on FS.

Why when we click on a thread, do we get sent to the end of the thread, so we have no context at all. Then we have to scroll up to click back to page one…

Far better go to the first post in the thread and jump forward from their

Heya King, if you click on the thread title it takes you to the front, and if you click on the little arrow next to the user name it takes you to the end of the thread.

    I think anyway :)

    nope, does not work

even it it did, means first thing I would have to do is scroll to the top of the page.

Its just poor site design that needs fixing – a one click setting, I’m sure.

If you click on the group e.g. Announcements & Feedback and then click on the topic heading of the one you want it takes you to the first post.

It just means you have to add one more click by going into the group first.

    Cheers,

    Hi Matt,

If you go into the Control panel, and choose ‘Edit options’, you will find a section about halfway down (or a bit further) called ‘Thread display options’.

That allows you to choose to read the posts in either chronological or reverse-chronological order.

Please feel free to let me know if that doesn’t fix the issue for you.

    Have a lovely day,
    Jayne

That’s curious Matt. Leave it with me and I will ask Peter to take a look at it for you. He is much more au fait with these functions than me.

Sorry for the inconvenience and one of us will come back to you ASAP.

    Best,
    Jayne

    Hi King,
Thanks for your comments. As you’ve rightly suggested it is the intention that clicking on threads takes you to the beginning rather than the end. I’ve been looking into this and from initial testing this is how it does work. However I’ll investigate further to see what might be happening with your settings and get back to you soon with suggested solutions.

In the meantime, it would also be great to hear if others experiencing the same thing?

    Cheers
    Peter

I tested it out on a few posts, i always click the thread title and as far as i can work out if it is the first time i have viewed a thread i get the first post of the first page and if i have viewed it before i get the last post of the last page.

My options are set to “Linear – oldest first” .. and that’s how I see it each time when I click the title.

    Hi King,
Sorry for the slow response on this. I’ve tested all the settings that I can find, and the forum and your account settings all seem to say the right thing but not behaving themselves?!?

Can I just confirm that this applies to the ‘today’s hot topics’ view only? For me all the other forum category/topics seem to operate as they should from my testing but I’m getting the same result as you in that menu – it seems to not mark them as read.

Let me know and I’ll hunt down some more specialist help! Is there a forum specialist in the house?!?

    Cheers
    Peter
