My husband has just brought a van which comes with a contract of a courier run. He has an abn and probably earning under 70000. Does he have to register for gst to claim the van, vehicle expenses and fuel under his abn also change of ownership should it be under abn instead of private?
Thanks

Welcome to the forums @ronto!

Being registered for GST is needed for you to claim back the 10% gst on purchases (where charged), but you’d also claim your expenses for your business quite separate to any GST claims.

For the rest sit tight while we wait for the experts to show up. :)

As Dave said, but the other question is, is you courier van over 4.5tonnes GVM?, because if it is you may be eligible to claim the fuel Tax Rebate, worth checking it out.
