Looking for crm software which can be tailored to suit a workshop enviornment.
In particular looking for something which will track workorders and allow a customer to log in and check the status of the repair.

    scenario,
1 customer brings item for repair and fills in form on tablet which creates the workorder/ticket, customer record, and cutsomer login.

2 technician diagnoses job and updates workorder/ticket in software with cost of repair, software emails update to customer.

    3. cusomer logs in and approves repair, (possibly capture credit card details but not necessary)

    4. technicial looks at list of approved jobs and performs repairs as required.

Parts lists or integration with other software would not be needed.

Has anyone seen something that could do this?
maybe osTicket, drupal’s support ticket project?
    Any ideas appreciated.

    Hi Judi,

Are you proposing building a custom solution?

    G’Day Steve,

I know one… I wrote 1 but not to promote my own system. What your after is a PSA solution more than a CRM, but have a look at

    1. AllocPSA: http://www.allocpsa.org/ : I also looked at for clients and it wasn’t too bad. Support is a bit crap (but you can modify it fully as it’s all php based with MySQL).
    2. Request Tracker: http://www.bestpractical.com/rt/ A heap of companies use this for Helpdesk tickets and you can customise it as well.
    3. Mantis: http://www.mantisbt.org/ I actually used this to have clients send me requests for bug on thier solution. Easy and Free and could be tailored but didn’t need to.

    Hope this helps.

Capsule CRM is excellent. I haven’t tried it for this purpose but you maybe able to use the case feature for it.

It’s built entirely for a different purpose, but there is WHMCS – it’s made for web hosts but includes a ticket system, as well as billing and customer management. Its very, very customisable and all the pieces are there to get it do what you’re looking for. There’s also a Project Management add-on which might be useful.

We use it, and have nothing but good things to say. Just be sure to keep it up to date, and follow the recommended steps to secure it and you shouldn’t have any dramas.

I use Quickbase for my CRM requirements and highly recommend it for functionality and the access to free development resources.

For what you’re talking about, I think you’d use this solution:
    http://quickbase.intuit.com/web-based-software/customer-service-software

One of the nice things about the way Quickbase work is that they’ll give you a product specialist to build your custom solution during the free trial period so that the product you’re trialing isn’t really an OTS package but your own system.
